At the Plateau Emerging Leaders Fellowship (PELF), we believe that leadership begins with awareness — and that education is the foundation that shapes every great leader.
Through their community impact projects, PELF Fellows are putting these values into action, using leadership, civic engagement, and innovation to address real challenges within their local communities. These projects represent more than activities — they are living classrooms of leadership, where fellows translate knowledge into service and passion into measurable change. Across Plateau State, fellows are reaching schools, empowering youth, and reshaping the mindset of what it means to lead. Below, we spotlight some of the inspiring initiatives and the impact made through these fellow-led projects.
Team Jos North, Jos South & Jos East: Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders

As part of their civic engagement project, Team Jos North, Jos South, and Jos East set out to inspire the next generation of leaders at Government Secondary School, Kyan Rikkos, Jos North LGA, through an interactive session themed “The Importance of Education in Leadership.”
Led by Fellow Rayan Abi, the session reached over 150 SS2 and SS3 students and three teachers, sparking thought-provoking conversations on the role of education in shaping responsible and visionary leaders.
From discussing figures like J.D. Gomwalk, Yakubu Gowon, and Abok Nuhu, to exploring whether “education is a scam,” the dialogue challenged students to see learning not just as a classroom experience, but as a tool for transformation.
By the end of the session, the students unanimously agreed: education remains one of the most powerful tools for leadership and change. This project embodies what PELF stands for — empowering emerging leaders to drive civic impact in their communities.
Team Quanpan & Shendam: Promoting Drug-Free Communities

Our Quanpan and Shendam Fellows organized an awareness campaign on drug misuse and abuse at St. John Bosco College, Namu, reaching over 450 students with vital information on the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of making healthy life choices.
The session featured interactive health talks, peer discussions, and the distribution of educational pamphlets, all aimed at increasing students’ knowledge of drug misuse, helping them build refusal skills against peer pressure, and promoting positive alternatives such as sports and counseling.
The impact was immediate — students demonstrated greater awareness of the risks of drug abuse, improved coping strategies, and a stronger willingness to seek counseling when needed. Teachers, parents, and community stakeholders have since noted the ripple effect of the conversation across the wider Namu community.
“Students are eager for open conversations on drugs when guided in a safe environment,” shared one of the facilitators. Through this initiative, our Shendam and Quanpan Fellows are contributing to a safer, healthier future for young people — one informed choice at a time. We’re proud of their commitment to building a Plateau where leadership is not just about influence, but impact.
Team Riyom & Bokkos: Values-Driven Leadership for the Next Generation

Our Riyom and Bokkos Fellows took their message of values-driven leadership to Riyom COCIN Academy, hosting an awareness campaign on “Personal and Selfless Leadership.”
The session, which engaged SS2 and SS3 students, focused on reshaping how young people perceive leadership — not as a position of power, but as an opportunity to serve.
Through lively discussions and reflections, the fellows emphasized that true leadership begins with self-discipline, integrity, and the desire to make things better than you met them.
One of the most memorable takeaways from the session was the quote:
“You are poor if all you have is money.”
To reinforce the message of service, the fellows distributed books, pens, and sweets — symbolic tokens of generosity and giving back.
We are incredibly proud of our Bokkos–Riyom Fellows, Haggai, Davou Zakka Fom, and Felix, for driving conversations that plant the seeds of integrity and selfless leadership among young people. Every project like this strengthens our vision of a Plateau where emerging leaders lead with purpose, compassion, and character.
Team Bassa: Launching Farm2Market — Strengthening Farmer-to-Market Connections

Our Team Bassa Fellows officially launched the Farm2Market Bassa Project, a community-driven initiative designed to bridge the gap between local farmers and reliable buyers through an accessible, low-cost market information system.
The project launch, held at Barje Garden, Mista Ali (Bassa LGA), brought together farmers, youth representatives, and community leaders to explore practical solutions to post-harvest losses, middlemen exploitation, and limited market access.
Highlights included:
Project Presentation – Overview of the Farm2Market concept and sustainability plan.
Installation of Market Information Boards – Real-time updates on produce and prices.
Volunteer Inauguration – Ten youth volunteers trained to manage weekly data collection.
Stakeholder Interaction – Farmers and leaders pledged support for transparency and fairness.
Already, the Farm2Market WhatsApp platform is connecting farmers in Bassa to bulk buyers in Jos and nearby areas — improving income, strengthening collaboration, and promoting youth participation in agriculture. This initiative is proof that leadership begins with service — and that when communities and young people work together, sustainable progress becomes possible.
We’re proud of our Team Bassa Fellows for taking bold steps to empower farmers and drive agricultural transformation across Plateau State.
Team Langtang North: Clean Langtang North Initiative

Our Team Langtang North Fellows championed the Clean Langtang North Initiative, a civic engagement project promoting environmental sanitation and sustainable waste management practices at Cooper Memorial Secondary School, Langtang North LGA.
Recognizing the importance of nurturing environmental consciousness early, the Fellows engaged over 400 students through interactive sensitization sessions on cleanliness, waste management, and personal responsibility.
Key highlights include:
♻️ Awareness sessions on environmental health and hygiene.
📈 Pre- and post-assessments showing measurable improvement in knowledge.
🧍🏽♀️ Student pledges to act as change-makers within their school and communities.
🗑️ Donation of waste bins to improve sanitation infrastructure.
The initiative not only raised awareness but inspired students to see themselves as leaders in environmental transformation — starting right from their classrooms and homes. This project reflects one of PELF’s core principles: leadership through action. By empowering young people to take ownership of their environment, we are fostering a generation that values sustainability, cleanliness, and community well-being.
Team Mangu: Leadership with Integrity and Influence

We’re proud to feature the Mangu Team, who took their message of leadership and integrity to COCIN Secondary School, Mangu, through a one-day training themed “Leadership with Integrity and Influence.”
Led by Panshak Divine Rhibetnaan, the session empowered 28 student prefects and 6 school staff with practical insights on leading with character, responsibility, and positive influence.
“I have learned that being a prefect is not about power but about influence,”
shared one student prefect.
The enthusiasm from both students and teachers, including the Vice Principal, reflected the strong impact of this session and the growing reach of PELF’s mission to nurture ethical, value-driven leaders. We are incredibly proud of our Fellows for their commitment to shaping a generation that leads not just with words, but with integrity.
Conclusion: Building Leaders for a Better Plateau
Through these community projects, PELF Fellows are translating leadership theory into tangible impact.
From promoting drug-free lifestyles, to redefining leadership and integrity, and inspiring the next generation through education, these initiatives are shaping a Plateau where young leaders rise — not for titles, but for transformation.
